SWAN Park Master Plan

Santa Fe, New Mexico

The first regional park in an under-served part of Santa Fe, the Southwest Park Master Plan deftly balances the distribution of a wide array of park programs serving the local community while retaining a majority of the site in a preserved or enhanced state. The site’s distinctive landforms and drainageways establish the framework for organizing program elements in clusters according to family and user needs. Planned stormwater management systems and site restoration efforts will enhance its ecological health.

Currently a 98-acre open space area with dramatic hillsides and a major arroyo corridor – the Arroyo de los Chamisos, the new SWAN Park will become a major public open space and recreation destination at the southwest edge of Tierra Contenta. Its location just east of NM 599 and south of Jaguar Drive offers direct access from existing neighborhoods and adjacency to exiting new growth and development. Its scale offers opportunities for a wide range of recreational activities – strolling, jogging, cycling, picnicking, skateboarding, organized sports, dog-walking, water play, etc. The site also provides locations for arts, music, culture, and outdoor events such as concerts, festivals, and farmers markets.
