La Tierra Trails Wayfinding
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Nestled in the Santa Fe foothills on 1,500 acres of public land within the City of Santa Fe, an intricate network of 25+ miles of trails serves as a recreation area for a variety of recreational trail users. A comprehensive signage and wayfinding system introduces the trails, clarifies the network, identifies allowed users on various trails, and serves as reassurance for trail users within the open space area. The wayfinding signage system for the La Tierra Trails utilizes a numbering system to identify trail junctures and direct users within the system. Large kiosk signs at major trailheads and entry points introduce trail users to the system and a small trails map sign at each junction provides orientation.
A brand identity for the La Tierra Trails was developed that includes the LTT logo, color scheme, and materials palette. The neutral tones of the sign graphics, mounted on cedar wood posts, provide orientation reassurance and enhance the wilderness recreation experience. Trail map signs and kiosks signs are printed on 12-color dHPL (digital High Pressure Laminate), while regulatory and marker signs are cut vinyl graphics on aluminum.
