POJOAQUE VALLEY RECREATION CENTER MASTER PLAN

Pojoaque, New Mexico

After conducting a thorough existing conditions analysis, a site master plan was generated for the project that responds to public needs and could be implemented in phases as funding allowed. Three guiding principles shape the concepts behind the master plan: (1) increase the diversity of program elements in the park while complementing existing elements so that the new park creates a family environment that appeals to more of the community; (2) optimize recreational field layouts for a range of sports, users, and ages; (3) establish clear and safe circulation routes throughout the park for pedestrians, joggers, and vehicles with separate designated vehicular / pedestrian zones.

As a testament to the community’s need and commitment to realizing the plan, funding has been secured for multiple phases. Phase I included upgrading the multipurpose field to artificial turf, renovating the existing restroom / concessions building, removing invasive plants and overgrowth, and installing designated parking areas and walkways to differentiate vehicular and pedestrian zones. With new funding already earmarked for Phase II, a more diverse set of park program elements, native plants, and circulation upgrades will be implemented to make the Pojoaque Valley Recreation Complex more accessible and appealing to local residents.
